A Drafted PM Glossary

Most dictionaries and glossaries of terms today are not structured. They contain many different terms, arranged in alphabetical sequence, with little or no attempt to show how the terms are related. A new IFIP "Glossary of Terms used in Production Control" has now been produced, which is structured. It is based on a classification of Production Management, of which Production Control is a part, and the terms and definitions it contains were chosen to fit the selected classes and subclasses. The objective of the Glossary is to provide definitions for the principal special terms needed to carryon an intelligent discussion about Production Control. As Production Control is just one of a number of closely related subsystems of Production Management, it would be impossible to carryon such a discussion using only those terms which are special to Production Control. For this reason the IFIP glossary has been based on a broad classification of the field of Production Management, and a deeper classification of the subfield of Production Control.
